Balanced Audio Technology is pleased to introduce the superlative new VK-20 solid-state balanced preamplifier. The VK-20 establishes a new benchmark in solid-state preamplifier performance by combining BAT's trademark high current Unistage® topology with a wonderfully flexible and easy to use customer interface.

The VK-20 retains the same basic architecture as the VK-40, but is designed to meet a more aggressive price point of $1995 plus $500 for remote plus $500 for phono card. The front panel display and controls, as well as complete user interface and remote control functions are the same for both products.

The differences between the VK-20 and VK-40 are as follows:
  1. Single power transformer in VK-20 (two in the VK-40).

  2. Metal film resistors used in the volume attenuator vs. Vishay resistors in the VK-40.

  3. Smaller power supply (less capacitance) in the VK-20.

  4. Lower bias currents in the VK-20 (100mA per channel as opposed to 250mA in the VK-40).

  5. Less expensive polypropylene capacitors instead of paper-in-oil units in VK-40.

  6. Different mix of input/output connectors - three RCA and two XLR inputs in the VK-20. One RCA and one XLR output (XLR only main outputs in VK-40).
